Coming to BOLT: Visibility States for Assignments

Beginning August 18th, instructors will be able to set the visibility state for assignment submission folders in Content and Assignments. When items are in a draft state, they are not visible to learners in BOLT.

IMPORTANT: When instructors create new assignment submission folders, they will default to the draft state- just like in Quizzes, Surveys, and Discussions. To make them available to learners, instructors will need to modify the visibility status on the Restrictions tab. If you have copied your course and want the folders available, check the status of the folders after August 18th and modify them as needed.

New: Discussions Reading view interface changes

When viewing a discussion topic, the properties are now listed together, directly below the topic's name. This includes availability and locking information along with other details set by the instructor. The filtering options are now displayed in a Filter by drop-down list above individual posts to allow sorting by unread, flagged, and unapproved posts.

Note: These changes only apply to viewing a discussion topic in the Discussions tool and do not apply to viewing a discussion topic from within the Content tool.

BOLT Tips: Course Copy

We thought it might be helpful to give you a few pointers for when you are copying your courses for 17Spring.
Make sure you are in the new, empty course when you start a course copy.
Copying the same items from the same source multiple times results in duplicates.
If you are copying Content and want topics to display, make sure you are also copying Course Files. If you don’t copy Course Files, the content structure will copy over... but not the content of the topics.
If you are copying linked or associated components (such as grade items), copy the related components at the same time.
After a successful course copy, make sure to update date restrictions.
After a successful course copy, make sure to check your group related items and restrictions to ensure groups are set up the way you want.

Conditional Release: NOT Condition

If you're familiar with release conditions, you know that you can set special conditions for when students complete quizzes, dropbox assignments, or surveys.

BOLT now has the opposite release condition available: the NOT condition.

The new NOT condition will allow you to release items in BOLT if students have NOT completed quizzes, dropbox assignments, surveys, and a variety of other procedures in BOLT.

Please refer to the Content Help module in the BOLT Help Course for information on release conditions and how to set them.

Quizzes Special Access Display Fixed

Some of you may have noticed a display issue with special access in quizzes where the time displayed was four to five hours ahead of the time you had set for students' special access. This was a display only issue.

The issue has been fixed and you should now see the appropriate time after setting special access for students in quizzes.

Quizzes - Ability to set multiple IP address ranges to quiz restrictions

Instructors can now specify multiple IP address restrictions as ranges, with the option to add multiple IP address range restrictions. This new feature enables instructors to limit quiz availability to specific locations, such as computer labs or classrooms. This restriction ensures that users can only access a quiz from IP addresses in the specified IP address ranges.

You can set up IP restriction ranges on the Restrictions tab when editing a quiz.
