Updates to Discussions

New features have been added to the Discussions tool in BOLT. Copy replies when copying threads and copy the forum description into its topics.

You are now able to copy a thread’s replies when copying the thread to another topic.

To do this, go to Coursework, select Discussions, and navigate to the thread you want to copy. Click the drop down arrow beside the thread’s name and select Copy Thread.

In the Copy dialog, you should see the new option to “Copy replies”.

Selecting this and clicking Copy will copy the thread and its replies into a different topic.

You are now able to copy the forum’s description into its topics.

To do this, edit an existing forum or create a new one. On the Edit Forum or New Forum page, select the option “Display forum description in topics”.

Selecting this will copy the forum’s description into its topics. This means students will see the forum description in the topic view.

If you add a discussion as an Existing Activity content topic, students clicking through the content topic will see the description on the content topic page for the discussion.

This improves your workflow by removing the necessity of adding descriptions to each topic in a forum when each topic would have the same description—such as for periodic group discussions for example.
